How to Become a Stockbroker in Virginia
[A] – Education
Pursuing Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship degrees at an accredited college or university is encouraged when becoming a broker.
You don’t necessarily need a degree to trade securities, but it’ll help you find employment as firms mostly only hire those who’ve obtained one.
[B] – Licensing
Once apart of a FINRA member firm, self-regulatory organization or exchange, they can sponsor you to take the Series 7 and Series 63 (or 66) exam.
[C] – Registration
You also must be registered with the Virginia State Corporation Commission in the Division of Securities and Retail Franchising. You do this by filing Form U4 and submitting it to the Division of Securities in Virginia through the Central Registration Depository (CRD) and pay the $30 fee.
