How to Become a Stockbroker in New York
 – Education
One of the most important steps to being a stockbroker include obtaining a college degree. Specifically something in Finance or Business is preferred. Developing analytical and communication skills should also be pursued
 – Licensing
In order to service clientele in trading securities, you must have a Series 7 License. For this you’ll need a FINRA – member firm, an exchange or a self-regulatory organization to sponsor you. Additionally, the Series 63 or Series 66 is required as well.
 – Registration
Being the fourth-most populous state in the nation, New York offers job opportunities for stock brokers who wish to solicit for clients.
The law requires securities sales agents to be licensed and registered with the New York Office of the Attorney General Investor Protection Bureau. Here are two paths to register:
Non – FINRA Firms: Brokers who are not apart of a FINRA member firm should file Form M-2 ($150 fee) for four years or Form M-4 ($30 fee) to the Department of Law.
FINRA – member Firms: Those who are apart of a FINRA member firm should register through the WebCRD (Central Registration Depository) with Form U-4.
